Mom Delivers Baby In Parking Lot Solo

Monica Walters-Wolfe had planned to deliver her baby at a midwife birthing center in Meridian Tuesday morning, just after midnight.

But when Wolfe got to The Baby Place, no one was there, so she gave birth to her baby alone in the middle of the driveway. She stripped off her clothes, using her coat to keep the baby warm. She walked to a nearby house to call 911 for help.

Luckily, the new mother did everything right. She and the baby are now at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. As nurses monitor her son in the neo-natal intensive care unit, Wolfe is coming to grips with the miscommunication that happened less than 48 hours ago.

Apparently, when she called her midwife, the midwife had mistakenly identified her as a different expectant mother who was coming from Twin Falls. And not Wolfe, who lives only minutes away from the birthing center.

“I think that this was a tragic mistake. I feel as a human being that this isn’t the way anyone should have a baby,” said Coleen Goodwin, midwife who owns The Baby Place.

In her nearly 25 years of experience and 700 deliveries, Goodwin says nothing like this has ever happened. But to make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else, Wolfe’s mom wants to put the midwife out of business.

“I’m telling you I’m on a campaign to do it. That is my daughter and my grandson that almost died,” said Kim Alberson, Wolfe’s mom.

But Wolfe doesn’t want to take such extreme measures, she just encourages mothers-to-be seeking alternative care providers to research them carefully.

Right now, there are no laws in Idaho regulating midwives. But Wolfe’s mother is hoping to change that by telling her story to state legislators.

As for the new mother and her son, they’re expected to go home Thursday.

I hope this story doesn’t deter other moms from using a midwife during their pregnancy. Just make sure if you have a plan to give birth somewhere other than a hospital you communicate the details fully.

First Photos Of Danish Princess

Proud new mum Crown Princess Mary has allowed a sneak peek into the newest snaps in the Danish royal family album.

Official photos of newborn “mini Mary” at home with Australian-born mum, dad Crown Prince Frederik and brother Prince Christian were released by the palace last night.

Photographer Steen Brogaard said the young prince couldn’t wait to show off his younger sister to the camera.

“I asked where the baby was, and he said straight away ‘This is the baby’, and showed me. I’m sure he loves her already,” Mr Brogaard said.

“She’s a very nice little princess, she behaved well. She is beautiful. The whole family is beautiful.”

The photographer said he’d been nervous before meeting the newest member of the Danish royal family, born on April 21.

“You have to be nervous on such an occasion. But it was excellent,” he said of the rare royal photo shoot.

One snap shows a grinning Prince Christian playing with his younger sister, while another shows the young princess nicknamed “lille pige” – Danish for Little Girl – sleeping soundly with her tongue poking out slightly.

The newborn princess will not formally be named until her christening on July 1, in keeping with Danish tradition.

The photos were taken over the weekend at the royal family’s home in Fredensborg, on the outskirts of Copenhagen.

This family is beautiful and the way Prince Christian looks at his sister is adorable.

Design Report Award Winner 2007

Australian designer Steven Procter has been awarded Design Report Award 2007 for his range of kid´s products that have been praised for their minimal use of space, form and function that is reduced to the max.

Inspired by his daughter, he designed a range of products for showing at the Milan Furniture fair Salone Satellite in April of 2007.

Both pieces fold up beautifully making them suitable for families that are limited for space. I am not sure how pratical the stroller is, the wheels look awkward and there is no canopy to protect the baby from the sun or rain.

There is a huge market out there for modern, sleek, simple baby products. Designer’s are using unconventional materials to re-invent the wheel and I like it.

Woman Gives Birth To Grandsons

A 52-year-old Greek mother has given birth to her two grandsons, after getting legal permission to be a surrogate mother for her daughter, a doctor in Crete said today.

The woman, who was implanted with embryos from her daughter’s fertilised eggs, gave birth to twin boys in good health and weighing 2.5 kilos, the gynaecologist, Charalambos Batakis, told journalists.

In July last year a Greek court gave permission for the woman to carry out a surrogate birth because her daughter was unable to carry a pregnancy to term due to health problems.

Greek law allows for surrogate mothers as long as the parties concerned reach an agreement with no financial compensation.

In principle, the surrogate mother should not be more than 50 years old, but in this case the court agreed to an exception.

I guess there should be no reason why this gramma shouldn’t be able to carry her daughters babies. It’s not like they are using her eggs - she’s just the oven!
