Amber Alert Issued For 8-Day-Old Baby

A teenage girl took an 8-day-old baby from a Detroit home while the childs mother recovered in the hospital, triggering an Amber Alert and an intense search Friday morning, police said.

The baby’s 27-year-old mother went into the hospital for medical issues relating to the birth and left the baby in the care of her 24-year-old sister who lives on Lantz Street on Detroit’s east side. At some point, the sister fell asleep. When she awoke around 1 p.m. Thursday, both the baby and Jasmin were gone. Police were not notified about the disappearance until around 11 p.m. Thursday.

Jasmin is described as a black female, 5 feet 2 and weighing 100 pounds. She has brown eyes. Her hair is in a black and red weave and she was last seen wearing a red jacket, red shirt and blue jeans.

The child is black, 20 inches long, 7 pounds 11 ounces, and has brown eyes. She was wearing a pink, white and purple-striped outfit with matching hat.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Detroit Police at 313-596-1100.

Refresher Courses For Grandparents

The UK Hospital Services has set up a program that brings Grandparents up to speed on what has been happening in the baby world since they had kids.

The refresher classes in modern parenting are being run in response to the growing burden being placed on grandparents by busy working parents.

About two thirds of families with babies and half of those with toddlers use grandparent care.

This makes it the most common form of childcare, especially for lone, younger and first-time mothers.

The courses have been started by community midwife Carol Murray.

She said: “I used to work in an ante-natal clinic so I was always doing classes for new mums and dads and occasionally I got the odd comment, ‘you should send my mum along’ so it was a wee idea that I thought about and thought about and eventually I was given the opportunity to be able to run the classes.”

“I always start the classes off saying I’m not here to tell them how to raise their grandchildren but just to bring them up to speed with what’s happening,” she said.

“A lot of the things we do are showing them how babies go down to sleep, prevention of cot death and how we wrap babies and lay them down, because that’s the biggest change over the last few years.”

She added: “Grannies had a tendency a few years ago to swaddle babies, wrap them up tightly in shawls and prop them up on their side and lots of blankets.

“We’ve found it’s safer if babies lie on their back with their feet at the bottom of the cot, and not too many layers depending on the temperature.”

I LOVE this idea! More communities should provide these classes. Grandparents want to provide good care for their grand babies, they just need to be brought up to speed on the changes that have occured in the last 10 -15 years.

Uk Kindergarten Class Seeing Double 9 Times

There has been such an explosion in multiples in last few years, it’s not uncommon to see twins anymore.

So common that a UK school has an overabundance of them.

Some teachers at Colchester Elementary school have been seeing double in recent days and also seeing triple on occasion. Principal Jacqueline Samberg says this year there are nine sets of twins and one set of triplets in the school’s two kindergarten classes.

“Twenty-one students out of 223 in the two kindergarten sessions,” Samberg said.

Dr. Ed Finai, chief of obstetrics at Yale-New Haven Hospital, said multiple births are more common nowadays.

“Multiple births have increased about 70 percent in the last 15 years,” Finai said. “It seemed to peak in about 2000.”

Last year a hospital in Michigan delivered 6 sets of twins in 32 hours!

Early Preview: Peg Perego Skate

Please brace yourself with an onslaught of baby gear posts over the next few weeks.

I attended the ABC Trade show in Vegas over the weekend and had the opportunity to view some collections for the upcoming season.

Many of the products that were on display will not be available until later this year including the next stroller I am debuting.

The Peg Perego ‘Skate’ is the company’s newest offering. It offers new parents both style and function when transporting their precious cargo.

Unlike other companies, the bassinet transforms into the toddler seat removing the need to purchase added accessories.

The bassinet provides 360 degree side protection and three height protection. While in stroller mode, the Skate offers a three-position seat adjustment, a removable hinged bumper bar, and Peg Perego’s signature five-point freedom-of-movement harness. Little travelers can face either the world a head or parents can reverse the seat for bonding time.

The company is offering the stroller in many exciting prints with an optional diaper bag to match your set.

I will update later on possible price point and release date.

This product is so new, it is currently not shown on the company’s official site.

Rumour has it that this hot looking stroller will be making it’s debut on Wisteria Lane. Look for one of the main characters to be pushing one this season.
