RECALL: Infantino Infant Rattles Due to Choking Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the Infantino, today announced a voluntary recall of about 2,000 Infantino Lamb Grabby Rattles™ because the tail-piece on the rattles can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Infantino has received eight reports of the tail piece on the rattle detaching. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled Infantino Lamb Grabby Rattles™ are shaped like a lamb with an Infantino elliptical-shaped logo stamped on the front right foot of the lamb. Only rattles with date code 0907 printed on the back of the left ear of the lamb are included in the recall. The production batch code is printed in a dial format with the year in the middle of a circle and an arrow pointing to the number on the circle that indicates the month. Rattles that do not have a date code are not included in the recall.

Parents are being asked to contact Infantino toll-free at (888) 808-3111 or visit the firm’s Web site at service.infantino.com for a replacement rattle or a product of equal value.

Recommended Read: Your Child’s Strengths by Jenifer Fox

For the past few weeks I have been reading a great book by Jenifer Fox called Your Child’s Strengths.

In the first few pages of this book, Jenifer captured my attention as she describes one of her earliest moments in school. The point in time that she realized that she had a talent inside of herself.

She speaks about her academic experiences, not just as a pupil, but as a current educator. Looking back on the way she was taught, the subjects covered and her feelings of weakness when she did not excel at everything.

We both believe the same things. Not everyone can be good at everything, so find what you do well and develop it to it’s highest potential.

As a principal, she wonders why the current school system teaches trigonometry, when what we probably need is statistics or why students need to learn Romeo and Juliet, when they could be learning about their local community and where its resources come from.

Jenifer questions most conventional methods of teaching kids, wondering if a new model needs to be developed in order to bring the excitement of learning back to the educational system.

I recommend this book to all parents and teachers because not only does it describe ideas and practices that contribute to children feeling weakness, but she goes on to explain what strengths are and how and why families and schools should help children develop theirs.

The last section of the book offers a variety of workbook exercises that parents, teachers, or children can use to discover and develop their strengths.

More information is available at the authors site along with resources for parents and educators. www.strengthsmovement.com

The book is available at amazon.com for $16.47

Police: 4 Year old Drunk At Elementary School

When I first read this story, I didn’t know if I should laugh or cry.

Foxnews.com is reporting that:

A 4 year old child was taken from an elementary school in The Village after teachers reported that she was acting strangely and had an alcohol smell on her breath. The Village police say the child was taken from Andrew Johnson Elementary School in the Oklahoma City suburb Wednesday by paramedics and was in good condition.

Police say the girl will be placed in state custody.

Deputy Police Chief Steve Jagosh says it’s believed the girl got the alcohol before she got to school. Investigators are still trying to determine where she got the alcohol.

A DRUNK 4 YEAR OLD? What is this world coming to? I can’t get my toddler to drink juice. How the heck did this little one get a taste for alcohol?
