Hannah Montana Items Found Containing High Lead Content

Word is that Hannah Montana’s licenced gear may be recalled due to high lead levels in some of the items.

Testing by the Center for Environmental Health in Oakland, Calif., found that some of the “Montana” items for sale at Toys R’ Us, Wal-Mart and Target had high levels of lead, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Saturday.Among the items found with the increased lead levels were vinyl backpacks and purses, along with a vinyl wallet and other items based on the popular children’s TV series.

Yet Walt Disney officials, whose company created “Montana” and its accompanying products, said all of its licensed products undergo a thorough review to ensure they follow safety guidelines.

“We require all licensed producers of products using Disney characters to test their products and to comply with all applicable product safety laws and standards,” a statement from the company said.

Despite that claim, a Consumer Product Safety Commission spokeswoman told the newspaper the center’s findings were being investigated.

Five vinyl products tested between three and 14 times higher than the federal paint standard, three other vinyl products tested above 200 ppm, and one tested at nearly that level, the center said.

Many of the items in question are handbags, purses, and backpacks. Some of those items are pictured below. SOURCE

That’s not Cancer, It’s A Baby!

A 57 year old UK woman was pleasantly surprised to find out she was expecting after doctors initially feared she had ovarian cancer.

Susan Tollefsen, from Romford, east London, was sent to hospital for emergency tests on her swelling belly eight weeks ago, but was instead congratulated by the sonographer who told her she was almost 30 weeks pregnant.

She will become one of Britain’s oldest mothers when she gives birth to a baby girl, who she has already named Freya, by caesarean section next week.

Ms Tollefsen, and her partner, Nick Mayer, 46, have been trying to have a baby by IVF for several years.

The couple thought their hopes of having a baby through IVF were over when Ms Tollefsen suffered an apparent miscarriage within four weeks of two fertilised embryos being implanted at a Russian fertility clinic.

Even though she had miscarried and a blood test and home pregnancy test appeared to confirm this by showing negative, the mom to be believes that she was carrying twins the other survived. Related Articles:

Rare New Brunswick Quads Going Home One at A Time

One of the quads born in New Brunswick is scheduled to go home today after spending 8 weeks in hospital growing and getting stronger.

Abigail Lidia, Eli Rocco, Cara Ella and Dominic James arrived in January, in that order, 11 weeks early, weighing just under 2 pounds, 6 ounces.

Cara Ella will be first to come home today, having met the requirements to leave the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). At 4 pounds, 9 ounces, she is gaining weight comfortably, bottle-feeds consistently, and maintains her body temperature on her own.

The others are still sleeping in their own individual “Isolette” incubator — a small, enclosed chamber that regulates body temperature until their bodies can do it. Each baby is also wired up to medical sensors for nurses’ quick attention when required.

The couple just moved to a two-bedroom condo in Glen Gardner, but they figure they have a few years before worrying about moving to bigger quarters. For now, they’re enjoying the surprise, and hoping all four babies will get to come home and be together by the time of their original due date of April 12.
