Baby Factory At Polygamist Compound?

I am completely shocked at the number of kids and babies that are living at this compound in Texas.

On Friday, more than 50 young girls, some of them pregnant, were removed from the compound after state authorities raided the property.

Child welfare officials also allege in court documents released Tuesday that sexual abuse was rampant at the 700-hectare compound in the small town of Eldorado, about 300 kilometres northwest of San Antonio.

Officials on Monday announced that 133 women and 401 children — more than twice as many as had been earlier reported — were removed from a polygamist compound and that all 401 children have been placed in state custody because a judge deemed them in imminent danger of physical abuse.

AP reports say that teenage girls were forced to marry as soon as they hit puberty and then procreate. When interviewed, many could not spell their last names or state their birth date.

The compound, that was built by leaders of the sect, was rife with sexual abuse, with girls spiritually married to much older men and boys groomed to perpetuate the cycle.

Sorting Toys Have Great Developmental Benefits

I am always looking for new ways to teach my son his numbers, colors and shapes.
There are a lot of great toys on the market that teach all three of these skills at one time while we play.

Sorting toys are a great way to encourage motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Here are a few of the ones that I have found that stand out.

The shape sorting Caterpiller - This multi-colored caterpiller encourages stacking, sorting and creativity. The brightly colored discs helps toddlers to recognize shapes and patterns.

Wooden Shape Sort Cube - This wooden cube features unconventional shapes on 3 sides of the box. When your toddler puts the colored shapes through the right holes they receive a satisfying “clunk.”

Illinois Raises Awareness About Abandoned Babies

Tuesday April 8th, 2008 was designated an awareness day for Abandoned babies in the State of Illinois.

The Governor, Rod Blagojevich, would like distressed parents to know that the fire station, police station or hospital are legal places a parent can hand over a newborn that is up to seven days old.

The baby must be given to a staff person on duty.

Pekin Fire Chief Chuck Lauss said, “They bring that baby in and relinquish custody of that baby. No questions asked. Completely anonymously. They have 72 hours to come back to that facility and find out where that baby has gone to.”

The Mayor of Pekin, David Tebben, said, “We’re looking to reach out and say we understand there’s sometimes some difficulty in life. We’re here to help. Come to us, we’re here to help.”

As of 2007, the signs were mandated under the amendment to Illinois’ safe haven law. It was important to do this because since 2001, 49 babies have been illegally abandoned… and half of those babies have died.

It would be nice if they took their campaign to the high schools. Too many teenage moms are hiding their pregnancies and then harming their babies after delivery. If these moms knew that they could give the baby up- no questions asked - maybe they wouldn’t make such irrational decisions post partum.
