Elisabeth Rohm and Partner Ron Wooster Welcome First Baby

Congratulations to Elisabeth Rohm and Partner Ron Wooster on the safe arrival of their first baby.

Easton August Anthony arrived yesterday afternoon in Los Angeles, Elisabeth’s publicist Tina Malhotra told The Associated Press today.

Easton’s name came to Elisabeth in a dream, and Anthony is Ron’s “other surname.”

We wish the new mom well and we can’t wait to see the official pictures.

Babies Accidentally Switched At Illinois Hospital

State public health officials say two babies were accidentally switched at a southern Illinois hospital, with one of the infants sent home with the wrong family.

The mistake happened in March at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion and involved two newborn boys.

Hospital workers soon learned of the error and immediately contacted the family.

A spokeswoman for the state health department says the hospital wasn’t required to report the matter, but it did on April 4th.

Because of patient privacy laws, the hospital isn’t commenting and the families’ names aren’t being released.

This is Why Toddlers and Technology Don’t Mix

When I got home last night, my husband handed me his Ipod and said, “You’ll never believe what happened to it tonight.”

I immediately thought that our son must of tossed it and broke the screen - I was wrong.

While my husband was making dinner, he gave the Ipod to our son to play with.

Mr. Smarty pants must of found the language screen because he changed it - to Japanese! (i think?)

So…not only do we have no idea what it says, we have no idea how to get it back to English.

Any Ideas?

New Moms Donate Breast Milk To Micro-Preemie

Isabella Sciulli was born 3 months early weighing 1 pound, 4 and two-thirds ounces.

At birth, doctors told her parents that the she would have the best chance of survival if she had breast milk.

Determined to see her daughter thrive, Kim Sciulli pumped 8 times a day.

“Barely anything came out,” Jerry Sciulli of Pittsburgh, Pa., said. “Barely anything. She would tap the bottle to get every drop out … she would say it’s liquid gold.”

“After Isabella was born, I saw all of her determination, making sure she pumped eight times a day,” Sciulli said of his wife. “Sometimes I would say ’seven times is good, you’re not gonna lose your milk tomorrow.’ [Kim] said, no, it has to be eight … it didn’t matter what time. She had to get eight pumps in.”

The baby started to grow.

Without warning or reason, Kim unexpectedly collapsed and died.

Baby Isabella was still in intensive care and about to run out of breast milk. Formula was an option, but it didn’t have the antibodies to protect against illness. Most important, Kim’s friends knew it wasn’t what she wanted. So friends contacted the International Breast Milk Project, a group of mothers who donate their breast milk to orphans in Africa.

Today, all of Isabella’s milk comes from donating mothers.

“Knowing that this milk came from people across the country; I wish it were her mother’s but that’s the next best option,” the baby’s father said.

He says he feels humbled that people are producing milk for her — something he can’t do to nourish his baby but other mothers can.

Isabella was released from hospital in Monday. She weighed in at 6lbs.

2 Of The Polish Quintuplets To Undergo Surgery

Two of the quintuplets born in a Krakow hospital last Saturday will probably undergo heart surgery.

This surgery is probably a PDA ligation surgery. When your baby is in utero it was not necessary for blood to circulate through the lungs because oxygen was provided through the placenta.

At birth, the placenta is removed when the umbilical cord is cut. A baby’s lungs must now provide oxygen to their body. When they take their first breath, the blood vessels in the lungs open up, and blood begins to flow through to pick up oxygen.

Because a severely premature baby never really takes a good breath, sometimes this conversion doesn’t happen.

It is fairly common for preemies to need this surgery. Doctors normally try to treat it with medication first. If that is not successful, then the surgery is done.

Professor Ryszard Lauterbach, head of the neonatal ward of the Krakow hospital, told Radio Krakow that the girls are in a stable condition, but they will require intensive medical assistance within the next couple of months.

The girls will have to remain in incubators until they reach normal weight. At birth each of them only weighed 800 grams.

The quints doctors think they might be identical. They will know for sure in a few weeks. The babies were conceived naturally.
