Life Threatening Tumor Causes Baby To Be Born Twice

When Keri McCartney was just 23 weeks pregnant a routine ultrasound showed that her baby had a life threatening tumor attached to her tailbone.

Upon inspection it was shown to be full of blood vessels and was as big as the fetus itself(the size of a grapefruit). The tumor was noncancerous … but still deadly.

RECALL: Simmons Kids Crib Mattresses Due to Entrapment Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Simmons Kids, today announced a voluntary recall of about 20,000 Simmons Kids Crib Mattresses because some of the crib mattresses can measure smaller than the 27 1/4 inch minimum width requirement for cribs, creating a gap between the mattress and crib side rails, posing an entrapment hazard to infants.

Simmons Kids and CPSC have received one report of a 6-month old baby becoming wedged between the mattress and crib’s frame. The baby was removed from the crib by the parent without injury.

Bridget Moynahan Talks Motherhood In Harper’s Bazaar

In July’s edition of Harper’s Bazaar first time mom Bridget Moynahan talks candidly about her motherhood experiences and not expecting to be a single mom.

Here are some highlights:

On the misconceptions of being a parent:

“Everyone says, ‘You give birth, you go home, and you have this amazing baby and it’s just beautiful,’” says the 37-year-old Massachusetts-raised model turned actress. “And I walked in and I just started sobbing. All of a sudden, you have this newborn you have no training for. It’s frightening.”

On being a single mom:

“I’m not sure anyone — and I could be wrong in this — grows up thinking, I want to be a single mom,” she says.

After dating Tom Brady for three years, Bridget found herself three months pregnant with his child but no longer in a relationship with him.

“Going through that traumatic time of being heartbroken and then being pregnant turned my whole life upside down and inside out and just knocked the wind out of me,” she says. “But I got so much out of that. It’s golden and it’s tough and it was f@#k*d up. But now I have a child, and it’s the best thing in the world.”

Teddy Travels 1,500 miles, Costing $2,000 To Be Re-United With His 7-Year-Old Owner

After a family holiday on the Costa Brava, one-eyed Orange Ted, who has had four owners (including a small dog) was mistakenly left at Girona airport.

With thinning fur, plentiful stitches and only one eye, Orange Ted has clearly been through some tough times in his 50 years. Little did this stuffed friend know, he his biggest journey was still to come.

Ted’s great adventure began on April 23 when Jaimee, his current owner, accidentally left her carry-on bag at the departure gate in the confusion before boarding.

Even though the bag had a Nintendo DS game console, Mr Men books and an MP3 player, Ted was all that she cared about.

Once home, the family phoned Girona baggage inquiries and were told the bag containing Ted was there – but that someone had to collect it in person.

The family then contacted their travel agent, who intern reached out to more than 1,000 of her colleagues from across the globe to find out if anyone would be visiting Girona.

Not realizing how efficient the agents were, Mr Armstrong booked a flight and a nights stay in Girona to collect the bear himself. Just before leaving, he was informed that an agent, who was driving across Spain and into France had the bear.

After his safe arrival home, Ted’s grand adventure cost the family approximately $2,000, for expenses including the unused flight, hotel and a string of phone calls.

While the family is happy to have Ted home, Mrs Armstrong said:

‘One thing is absolutely certain – he is never leaving the country again.’

Good Call!!

Pediatricians Warn Parents About The Signs Of Dry Drowning

Today was the first time I have heard of dry drowning. This is an article that every parent should read.

The tragic death of a South Carolina 10-year-old more than an hour after he had gone swimming has focused a spotlight on the little-known phenomenon called “dry drowning” — and warning signs that every parent should be aware of.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, some 3,600 people drowned in 2005, the most recent year for which there are statistics. Some 10 to 15 percent of those deaths was classified as “dry drowning,” which can occur up to 24 hours after a small amount of water gets into the lungs. In children, that can happen during a bath.

Dr. Daniel Rauch, a pediatrician from New York University Langone Medical Center, told Today Show about the signs that parents should look for.

  1. Because dry drowning is a lung process, difficulty breathing is the first sign that you would be worried about.
  2. The second sign is extreme fatigue, which is sometimes hard to detect. “The job of the lungs is to get oxygen into the blood and your brain needs oxygen to keep working, so when your brain isn’t getting oxygen, it can start doing funny things. One of them is becoming excessively tired, losing consciousness and the inability to be aroused appropriately,” Dr. Rauch said.
  3. Change in Behavior is also tough to spot when dealing with very small children, whose moods and behavior can change from one minute to the next.
