Agence France-Presse is reporting that a 59-year-old woman in France is due to give birth to triplets at a Paris hospital.
The woman received an egg donation in Vietnam. She’s being kept under medical observation and is expected to give birth “imminently”.
The woman, who is married to a man in his 40s, reportedly went to a private Vietnamese clinic willing to overlook the age limit for egg donation and in-vitro fertilization, AFP reports.
According to the newspaper, Vietnam has an age limit of 45 for IVF.
But like the 59-year-old woman, age limits have not stopped other women from seeking IVF overseas.
Earlier this year, a 70-year-old Indian woman gave birth to twins after receiving IVF treatment.
And in May 2007, Frieda Birnbaum, 60, gave birth to twin boys, becoming the oldest woman to give birth to twins in the United States.
