While his teammates were preparing for Super Bowl XLV, Wynn was by his wife Martavia’s side at a local Dallas hospital as she went into labor with their second child.
The whirlwind began Saturday night when the couple was out to dinner with family. In the middle of the meal, Martavia’s water broke. Plans quickly shifted — she was rushed to a nearby hospital, and Wynn, who was expected back at the team hotel to rest and prep for game day, stayed firmly at her side.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Wynns welcomed their baby boy into the world: a healthy seven-pound, four-ounce bundle of joy they named Jarius Jr.
Running on just 90 minutes of sleep, the proud new dad still suited up for the Super Bowl later that day, managing to take the field for three defensive plays in what would become a championship-winning performance for the Packers.
While the couple had settled on the baby’s first name, the middle name was still up for debate. With a nod to the big game and the city that hosted their unforgettable weekend, Wynn joked, “Might be Dallas, might be Aaron,” referencing his quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. Then with a grin, he added, “I’m thinking about Super, but I’m not sure yet.”
One thing was certain — February 6, 2011 would be a day the Wynn family would never forget, both for the miracle of new life and a Super Bowl ring.
