For doctors at the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning, it was a delivery worth remembering when Addyson Gale Cessna came into this world weighing almost 14 pounds, a hospital record!
Michelle, Addyson’s mom recalls feeling discomfort during her pregnancy as her baby continued to grow double the size of an average baby. Doctors at the hospital, including Dr. Amy Turner who scheduled the delivery, say they planned a C-section and were sure it was going to be a big baby, but did not realize the newborn would be this big.
Baby Addyson was 13 pounds and 12 ounces and measuring 25 inches long at birth making her the biggest baby till date to be born at the hospital as per the doctors.
‘When I first got her out I was like: “She’s at least 12 pounds”. She was much bigger than we thought,’ said Dr. Turner.
Dr Yannie Narcisse another doctor says, “I think as mothers, we all have that initial, oh my that must have hurt, and they’re right. That’s big.”
Michelle knows the feeling. After coming out of the operating theatre she said,
‘I can’t even describe it. It’s just bliss.’
The new mom and her husband, however, had prepared themselves for a big baby. The couple has twin boys JJ and Ryan, who were large too. But they did not imagine the baby to be over 13 pounds.
‘I wasn’t expecting this. I’m just happy that everything’s OK,’ the mom says who thinks her family is perfect now.
The heaviest baby to survive, was born in Aversa, Italy in 1955 weighing 22 pounds and eight ounces.
According to the Guinness Wold Records the heaviest baby on record was born in Ohio in 1879, weighing 23 pounds and 12 ounces but the baby died after 11 hours.
