Alabama Mom Stunned as Baby Weighs Over 13 Pounds at Birth

When Pamela Mann went in for a scheduled C-section, she expected a routine delivery. What she didn’t expect was the stunned reaction from the entire medical team as they delivered her daughter.

“The doctor pulled her out, and suddenly, all the nurses gasped—‘Oh God!’ ‘Wow!’” Mann, 31, recalled. At first, she panicked, unsure what was wrong. Moments later, she learned the surprising news—her baby girl, Paris Halo, weighed a whopping 13 pounds, 4 ounces, nearly twice the size of an average newborn.

As a new mom, Mann had no idea what to expect when it came to newborn weight. “I thought 13 pounds was normal,” she said with a laugh. “But the nurses quickly let me know that was far from typical.”

According to the American Pregnancy Association, most full-term newborns weigh between 6 and 9 pounds, making Paris’ size an extraordinary case.

Born on March 4 at Grand View Medical Center in Alabama, Paris has quickly become the talk of the hospital. Nurses and staff have been stopping by just to catch a glimpse of the newborn, and she’s already earned a few playful nicknames, including “Big Mama” and “Star.”

“She’s only a few days old, and she’s already famous,” Mann joked.

Although Paris is larger than most newborns, she is receiving extra care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Doctors expect her to be discharged soon, and her family is looking forward to bringing her home.

“She’s doing great—just getting a little extra love,” Mann said.

As the proud parents adjust to life with their new bundle of joy, one thing is certain—Paris has already made a big impression.
