There was a lot of excitement in Austria yesterday after a 26-year-old women welcomed a set of healthy quintuplets at Vienna’s General Hospital.
The five babies, all girls, were delivered via caesarian section shortly after noon yesterday. Born almost 3 months early at 29 weeks gestation, the girls all arrived weighing about 2.2lbs.
The delivery was attended by more than 40 people, including NICU staff, Neonatologists, anesthesiologists and respirologists.
The caesarian section was originally planned for next week but had to be moved forward after the mother experienced some heart problems.
Like many mega multiples, the pregnancy was the result of hormone therapy after the couple failed to get pregnant. The new babies join the couple’s six-year-old daughter.
Congratulations to the new parents!
