A mother in India has left her community in awe after giving birth to a baby with two faces and twice the usual number of limbs.
When Rama Devi, 38, from Koreanpurwa, Kiratapur village, experienced labor pains on Sunday night she was rushed to the hospital. By the next morning, she had given birth to a child with four legs and four arms. Medical professionals determined that the baby’s body was conjoined, with one side still developing. Despite the initial shock, the baby’s father, Ramphal, expressed joy, celebrating his child’s unique nature.
However, the situation quickly grew tense as medical staff, unsure how to handle the rare condition, reportedly left the baby outside the hospital. Locals, surprised by the news, gathered at the facility. Rama claimed her baby disappeared for two hours after being removed by the staff, but a nurse, Rajkumari, denied this, stating the baby was only taken around the ward. She added that while the delivery was uncomplicated, the baby struggled to consume milk.
Rama’s baby’s future remains uncertain, as complications are common in such cases. Diprosopus, the condition where parts of the face are duplicated, affects approximately two in every one million births worldwide.
