UK manufacturer Mamas & Papas has long been one of our favorites because they design beautiful baby gear that is perfect for babies of all developmental stages. Debuted last year, the Armadillo Flip XT stroller is one of the brand’s most lightweight, versatile strollers. Perfect from birth(to 50lbs), this stylish buggy is also travel system compatible and compact enough for that trip to Europe!
Out of the box all parents need to do is pop on the wheels. Within 10 minutes of opening the box you will be off and running! The stroller comes with a manual that offers some great illustrations on how to get going quickly.
From birth, the Armadillo Flip XT stroller can be used with the Infant Car Seat(additional adapters needed), with the Carrycot(Not available in Canada) or with the seat in the reclined position.
The stroller’s seat is both spacious and comfy for little passengers. It comes equipped with a 5-point, 3 position height adjustable harness.
The buckle on the seat needs to be placed together like a puzzle piece before it connects, and the switch itself is a little tighter, which makes it harder for kids to escape.
The seat can be positioned to 3 heights with the lowest sitting nearly flat for a sleeping newborn. Parents who want to give their kids a different view also have the option of the seat facing them as well, with the same three height positions available in the rear-facing mode.
The calf rest can be adjusted up to give little ones more support or pivoted down for older kids. There is also a fixed footrest for them to rest their feet on.
The canopy on the Armadillo Flip XT is both roomy and full featured. When babies are in the flat recline position, it covers their upper body.
That coverage is expanded when the seat is in the upright position.
Mamas & Papas has also added a peek-a-boo window with a magnetic closure and a mesh ventilation panel that is revealed when you unzip the bottom panel of the canopy.
At the top of the canopy there is a small loop that parents can use to attach a toy as well. A rain cover is also included with the stroller.
Perfect for a day out, the storage under the stroller is generous and easy to access. Even with our large diaper bag stuffed in the bottom, there was more than enough room for another diaper bag and shopping bags. It is lined with mesh panels that are elasticized so it is easy to get to from all sides – even when the seat is in the rear facing position.
At the back of the stroller there is a one-touch brake that is linked to both sides. This switch is ‘flip-flop’ friendly and easy to use.
The Armadillo Flip XT runs on 2-6″ foam filled wheels at the front and 2-9″ foam filled wheels at the back. This combination, plus front and rear wheel suspension, gives the stroller a nice push over most terrain. This is not an all-terrain stroller, but it can go over gravel, grass, uneven pavement and mud. It pushes the best, however, in urban areas and is perfect for malls, parks, and travel.
The handle on the Armadillo Flip XT is faux leather that is telescopic and can be adjusted to 4 different levels for parents of all heights.
On the handle bar there is also a strap to prevent the stroller from getting away from you and the mechanism to close the unit.
One of the most convenient features of this stroller is the fold. It is easy to do and can be done with the seat in the forward or rear-facing mode. Parents just need to fold the seat in half, press the button on the handle, twist the hand lever and flip the handle bar forward.
Grab the handle underneath the stroller and the whole thing will fold in half and lock in place.
The Armadillo Flip XT has a carry handle on the bottom of the stroller, which is very convenient for getting it in and out of the car.
I love that the seat folds inward so that there isn’t a concern that your fabric will get dirty, and that the stroller is compact for easy storage.
