A former school bus driver was sentenced to jail time yesterday after she drove drunk with kids on board.
Martha Thompson, was caught on video last May in Alfred, N.Y., driving while intoxicated. In a video that was released documenting the incident shows several teens onboard begging her to pull over after she missed a turn and drove the bus in reverse.
Once chaos ensues some of the older students try to lead the younger ones out through the back of the bus, while a drunken Thompson screams for them to get back on.
Through the windows of the bus you can see all of the kids wandering on the road while students who remained on the bus use their cell phones – possibly to call their parents.
Thompson pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and to 37 counts of reckless endangerment, one for each student she was driving. She was sentenced to 90 days in jail, six months of home monitoring and a $1,000 fine.
Ms. Thompson’a attorney blamed her behavior on a little alcohol having a bad reaction with her medication. I guess he wasn’t informed that her blood alcohol content was .15 – almost double the legal limit.
