Using natural materials of wool roving, felt and wood, Aileen Leitjen of the Felt Forest has created a host of beautiful, whimsical toys to allow young imaginations to grow and play. She is both a Waldorf education graduate and supporter as well as parent, and is able to draw on a deep rooted love of nature and natural fibres when creating her toys.
Within her collection she has a stunning sculpture of an American goldfinch that would be perfect on a nature table next to her needle felted ‘forest children’ made of undyed wool. Also suitable for older children and pretend play are her little needle felted mice and toadstools.
For celebrating special occasions, perhaps a birthday or a royal tea party in the garden, she has created wonderful felt crowns adorned with simple flowers. the crowns tie in the back so that they are able to fit a wide range of ages. And what tea party would be complete without some treats? The stunning petit fours offered by the Felt Forest look good enough to eat, and are as beautiful for decoration as they are durable for play.
So for something a little bit different, why not take a stroll through the Felt Forest…
