In a heartwarming story, a couple from Florida has officially become a family of three after adopting a baby who was found abandoned on the side of the road as a newborn. The couple, who have chosen to remain anonymous, welcomed their daughter into their family on Wednesday.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office shared the exciting news on Facebook, calling it a “happy ending that leads to a happy beginning.” The couple celebrated their adoption day, also known as “gotcha day,” surrounded by love and support.
The incredible journey began last January when sheriff’s deputies responded to an emergency call in Mulberry, a small town near Tampa. They discovered a newborn baby just an hour old, still with her placenta attached, wrapped in a blanket. A nearby resident had heard the baby’s cries and alerted authorities.
The baby was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where she was declared healthy and stable. However, her mother could not be located despite the authorities’ efforts. As a result, the Florida Department of Children and Families took custody of the infant.
After 10 months and one day, the little girl was officially adopted by the loving couple. Heartwarming photos shared by the sheriff’s office showcased the adorable girl dressed in a pink dress and shoes, with her hair styled in cute pigtails for her special adoption day.
This story highlights the importance of safe haven laws, which allow parents to leave newborns up to a week old at designated locations without fear of prosecution. These laws exist in all 50 states, although the age limits for using a baby box may vary.
This heartwarming adoption tale serves as a reminder that love can triumph over adversity, and a family can be forged in the most unexpected ways.
