Gal Gadot Opens Up About Life-Threatening Pregnancy Complication and the Birth of Her Daughter Ori

As the year draws to a close, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot has shared a deeply personal and harrowing experience from earlier this year, revealing the life-threatening complications she faced during her pregnancy. In an Instagram post, Gadot opened up about being diagnosed with a massive blood clot during her eighth month of pregnancy, an ordeal that not only changed her life but also highlighted the fragility of existence.

“This year has been one of profound challenges and deep reflections, and I’ve wrestled with how, or even if, to share a personal story,” Gadot began. “At the end, I decided to let my heart guide me. Perhaps this is my way of processing everything, of pulling back the curtain on the fragile reality behind the curated moments we share on social media. Most of all, I hope that by sharing, I can raise awareness and support others who may face something similar.”

In February, during what should have been a joyful time anticipating the arrival of her baby girl, Gadot endured excruciating headaches that confined her to bed. These debilitating symptoms prompted her to undergo an MRI, which revealed a massive blood clot in her brain. The diagnosis was cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), a rare condition that affects approximately 3 in 100,000 pregnant women over the age of 30.

“In one moment, my family and I were faced with how fragile life can be,” Gadot wrote. “It was a stark reminder of how quickly everything can change, and in the midst of a difficult year, all I wanted was to hold on and live.”

The diagnosis set off a race against time. Gadot was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery. During the same hospital stay, her daughter Ori was delivered early, amidst a whirlwind of fear and uncertainty.

“Her name, meaning ‘my light,’ wasn’t chosen by chance,” Gadot explained. “Before the surgery, I told [my husband] Jaron that when our daughter arrived, she would be the light waiting for me at the end of this tunnel.”

Thanks to the skill and dedication of her medical team, Gadot survived the ordeal and began the long road to recovery. Today, she is fully healed and filled with gratitude for the care she received and the life she has been given back.

Reflecting on her journey, Gadot shared the profound lessons she learned:

Listening to Your Body: “Pain, discomfort, or even subtle changes often carry deeper meaning. Being attuned to your body can be lifesaving.” Gadot’s experience underscores the importance of seeking medical attention when something feels off, especially during pregnancy.

Raising Awareness: Gadot highlighted the need for greater awareness about CVT and other pregnancy-related complications. “It’s so important to identify [CVT] early because it’s treatable,” she shared. “While rare, it’s a possibility, and knowing it exists is the first step to addressing it.”

By sharing her story, Gadot hopes to empower others to prioritize their health and seek early interventions. “If even one person feels compelled to take action for their health because of this story, it will have been worth sharing,” she added.

Gadot and her husband, Jaron Varsano, are also parents to three other daughters: Alma, 13, Maya, 7, and Daniella, 3. The arrival of Ori, her “light,” marked a moment of hope and renewal for the family amid a year of challenges.
