A distressing situation has unfolded at a Serbian hospital where a mother is being denied her newborn baby until she settles her outstanding hospital fees. Senija Roganovic, a Macedonian woman, gave birth at the Neonatology Hospital in Belgrade two months ago. However, due to her inability to pay a £4,250 bill for a ten-day stay, her baby has been withheld from her.
Roganovic is facing financial hardship, as she lacks health insurance in Serbia and has no means of raising the necessary funds to cover the hospital fees. This unfortunate situation has taken a toll on her health, leading to weight loss and great distress over the well-being of her child.
It raises concerns and begs the question: Can a hospital truly retain a baby due to outstanding bills? Is there no possibility of a payment plan or assistance available?
