Parents please check your gear. IKEA, in conjunction with Health Canada has recalled approximately 75,000 Patrull baby gates because the friction between the wall and the pressure-mounted safety gate is insufficient to hold the gate in its intended position, posing a fall hazard. The safety gate is not intended to be used at the top of stairs. In addition, the lower metal bar can be a tripping hazard.
IKEA has received 18 incidents worldwide, including 4 in Canada, with serious injuries reported for Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
Patrull safety gate, PATRULL KLÄMMA and PATRULL FAST have been sold on all IKEA markets, though PATRULL KLÄMMA has not been sold in Canada since May 2015.
This recall involves the PATRULL KLÄMMA and the PATRULL SMIDIG metal safety gates with a date stamp 1510 (YYWW- Year & Week) or earlier. They are white, pressure mounted adjustable safety gates made of steel and plastic, and designed to be installed between the two sides of the door frame to hold the gate in place. A permanent label is attached to the metal bar at the bottom of the safety gate containing the article number and date stamp.
