im not normally one to judge outfits of people publicly, cause i think it’s their perogative, and i am vehemently against girls/women being shamed for showing “too much” skin, because it isnt our fault we have bodies, but what Penelope is wearing is just notttttt okay for an eight year old imho. it woulda been better if she was just in no top and baby shorts, even, or something. that may sound backwards, but lemme explain: if she had worn what i said, yes, it is revealing, but she still looks like a kid. this outfit really sexualizes a young kid in a way that is disgusting. like who even makes a bikini like this?! pedophiles, prolly. can you imagine who is getting satisfaction outta this picture? id rather not, but the image keeps popping up. i am not against little girls wearing bikinis at all, but damn, this is like pretty much as skimpy as mines are, and i like to show off as much skin as possible on the beach. it honestly might even be skimpier than some of the more covered sets i own. im disturbed to even consider what the back looks like. again, i fee conflicted, because normally i would counter this by saying that we dont choose to have the bodies we have, it is on others to keep their eyes in appropriate locations, youre the weird one for thinking of a baby in that context, she just wants to be cute, etc. but like i previously stated, this is very concerning to me. no one in the picture looks even slightly concerned that the baby girl is literally dressed with a tiny strip of fabric on her chest. thats why i think that top off wouldve actually been better—at least then, it makes it cleat that shes a baby and doesnt “need” to cover it. that being said, i also think thats kinda weird, as it was never ever something i did/was allowed (slash even wanted) to do (my parents were very chill about clothing in general, though) as a kid. and i think thats a good thing. it’s on parents foremost and other adults (if they can) to look out for kids, especially regarding matters they might not fully grasp. a child doesnt neccessarily understand the implications of the suit she chose, she prolly just wants to look cute like mama. in these cases, it is a parents responsibility to guide their kid towards a more appropriate choice. once again though, this bikini should not even be an option, let alone even exist period. i feel like im on a watchlist just looking at it. again, im all for girls/women expressing themselves through fashion in any way desired; and im all about teaching people acceptance and person responsibility. furthermore, i strongly believe in showing skin, and that being revealing can allow girls/women to feel much more empowered, confident, intune with themselves/body, free, excited about their outfit/proud of their look, overall more sexy/sensual in a way that pleases them first and foremost, etc. but i also strongly believe that we gotta be smart about how kids are dressed, what is put on the internet, the messages were inadvertently/purposefully sending our kids in these, and other contexts, the context within which the issues occur/why its “them, not us”, who is watching them/the audience, the reality of sexualization of extremely young minors, as well as how damaging such a practice can be, the harm in seemingly harmless dressup fun/why it isnt their fault, how to make good clothing choices that still make you feel good, when it will be okay to wear whatever, how it isnt the kids fault that some people are creeps, and so on. i could keep going, but ill stop here.
