A New Jersey mother is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly driving drunk with her three young daughters in the car and crashing into an oncoming truck. The incident, which occurred last October in Ewing Township, has resurfaced following the release of police body camera footage that captured the chaotic aftermath.
The woman, identified as Megan Fackler, reportedly worked for the New Jersey Department of Transportation at the time of the crash. According to police, she had taken her children — ages 8, 7, and 4 — out to dinner on the evening of October 5, 2024, before veering into oncoming traffic and colliding with another vehicle in her 2020 Chevrolet Traverse.
The bodycam footage, obtained by Transparency Bodycam and now publicly circulated, paints a troubling picture. Fackler can be heard slurring her speech and apologizing to officers, at one point pleading, “Please don’t arrest me,” and later identifying herself as a DOT employee, saying, “I understand how this works.” The video shows officers attempting to keep the situation calm while managing the safety of the children and evaluating Fackler’s condition.
When questioned about the multiple open bottles of wine found inside her SUV, Fackler claimed they were “weeks old.” She also referenced her mental state, citing a recent divorce and stating she had “no balance.” Authorities say she failed a series of field sobriety tests and ultimately registered a blood alcohol content of 0.371% — nearly five times the legal limit in New Jersey. For context, a BAC that high is considered life-threatening and can result in alcohol poisoning.
Fackler has been charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and was issued several traffic citations, including driving under the influence and reckless driving. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the crash.
While it remains unclear whether she is still employed by the Department of Transportation, LinkedIn records previously listed her as a director of statewide planning. Neither the department nor Fackler has issued a public statement, and attempts to reach her for comment have been unsuccessful.
The Ewing Township Police Department has not responded to requests for more information about the incident or Fackler’s current status.
