Tis the season to give and the March of Dimes has definitely given a group of parents a gift they will never forget. The March of Dimes in Kansas City, along with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurses and staff at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, came together to create some absolutely adorable pictures of their little fighters. This is the same hospital that turned their preemies into superheroes for Halloween!
To celebrate the holidays the staff made tiny packages, hats and keepsake cards to celebrate the incredible NICU babies and their families. Being in the NICU with your baby can make time feel like it stands still so this was likely a gift these parents were very excited to get.
On Thursday, Dec. 15 the “packages” were delivered to babies by Santa himself, and three volunteer photographers from the March of Dimes – all moms of former NICU babies themselves – captured the special memories in photos.
Each of the NICU families was given a keepsake “Twas the Night Before Christmas” card with their baby’s own footprint drawn into a mouse, a hand-crocheted Santa bag filled with candy, and a hand-crocheted Santa hat or girl’s cap with a bow, along with a keepsake holiday book that the family may read together.
Families who celebrate Hanukkah were given beautiful blue and silver presents and keepsakes, and families who celebrate Kwanzaa were given red, green, gold and black gifts.
Santa Claus, along with March of Dimes at Saint Luke’s Hospital, delivered “gifts” and treats to approximately 31 babies in the NICU.
