A pregnant 14-year-old has told how having a baby is now regarded as “fashionable” among schoolgirls.
Kizzy Neal has been asked to give advice to four of her classmates who have also fallen pregnant since Christmas.
The teen, from Torbay in Devon, said: “When my friends see my bump they say they wish they could have a baby, then three weeks later they’re pregnant and don’t know what to do.
“Teenage girls think babies are cute, but they forget the physical side of being pregnant, then having to give up your own childhood to look after a baby.
“It seems to be fashionable to get pregnant.”
Family campaigners said her comments showed how the Government’s sex education policy had left teens with the “ridiculous but extremely worrying” misconception that having a child was no different from getting a new handbag.
Her revelations come as official figures show England and Wales have the highest rates of teenage pregnancies in Europe – with the biggest increase among girls under 16.
Kizzy became pregnant the first time she had sex with her 13-year-old boyfriend.
She is due to give birth in May and aims to take three months off her studies at Paignton Community College in Devon, before resuming her GCSE lessons next September.
Fashionable? Which part of having a baby is fashionable? The part where you sleep only 4 hours a day, don’t get to shower, and no longer have spending money for yourself. Maybe it’s the part where your friends don’t want to hang out with you anymore because you no longer have anything in common.
These kids have lost the meaning of life. When you are young, you should have fun with your friends, go to the beach, travel and do everything. After you have done that, gone to school, worked a bit – then have a baby – with someone who can support you and help out when you are tired. How can a 13-year-old father help out when his voice hasn’t even changed yet?
It is no wonder that the world is having an overcrowding problem at orphanages. These young girls have no idea what they have signed up for and then just abandon their babies when reality sets in.
I love the program at High Schools that makes teens look after the “baby doll” for a week. They have to give it everything it needs 24 hours a day if it cries or the diaper needs to be changed. It is not a perfect program, but it does give the girls and idea of some of the work involved.
This really angers me! What would these teens do if they had a preemie? Or what if they had to deal with a special needs child? I highly doubt that it would get the care that would be needed.
There was a young girl in my pod when Ashton was first born. The mother was only 14. She was just so immature. I remember the first time she got to hold her son, I was so jealous as I hadn’t got to hold Ashton yet. It bothered me to see her in there. I overheard her telling the nurse that was on that she couldn’t wait until her son was old enough to take him to the mall. What!??! I almost lost it.
These girls need to think before they run out and have sex with whoever they feel like it. Raising a baby takes a lot more than feeding and playing dress up with them.
You know I am 16 and I have a 8 month old littl girl.I got pregnant at 15, the father was 19. I hate that there are so many girls out there that tell me “oh i will never get pregnant” and then BAM they are pregnant. it is stupid!
I want to be someone who goes around to every high school and explain to them what it is really like. All these girls think it would be sao great, well newsflash, ITS NOT! i ended up loosing my family, my home,my friends, and my education because of it.
I no longer get to hang with my friends on the weekend. Or buy all those “in style” clothes. Instead i have to spend over $160 on 9 cans of fuormula that my daughter goes through in less than a week. and like 30 dollars on enough diapers to last me for MAYBE a month. they all think the father will help and stick around WRONG ANSWER i am lucky to have my baby’s daddy but there are alot of issues because of it.
Coming from a teen mother that cares BE SMART IT ONLY TAKES ONCE. sex isnt as great as everyone makes it seem. so enjoy your life and dont make sex a part of it till you are truly ready for it.
